Grand-duc has two distinct meanings depending on context: the noble title (le grand-duc de Luxembourg) and the large owl Bubo bubo, known in English as the Eurasian eagle owl, the largest owl in Europe. The plural is grands-ducs for the title and grands-ducs for the bird. The feminine equivalent of the noble title is la grande-duchesse.
