Usage Note

Extase describes overwhelming joy, spiritual trance, or artistic rapture. The phrase être en extase (to be in rapture/ecstasy) is very common. Extatique is the related adjective. In colloquial slang extase can also informally allude to the drug MDMA, though ecsta is more common in that register.
