estime conveys a deep, considered respect rather than simple admiration — avoir de l'estime pour quelqu'un ('to hold someone in esteem'). L'estime de soi is the standard French term for 'self-esteem'. The verb estimer means both 'to esteem' and 'to estimate/reckon'.
