cramer

to burn, to scorch

verb krah-MEH Rare

Also means

to go up in flames (slang)

Usage Note

Cramer is informal/colloquial for burning something completely — j'ai cramé le rôti ('I burned the roast'). It can also mean to burn out electrically (le moteur a cramé). In street slang, se faire cramer means 'to get caught' or 'to get busted.' It is a regular -er verb and far more vivid than the neutral brûler.

Examples

"Il a cramé la viande sur le barbecue."

Natural Translation

He burned the meat on the barbecue.
