Usage Note
Crac is primarily an onomatopoeia for a sudden sharp snapping or cracking sound — a bone, a branch, or a whip. As a noun it is masculine. It often appears doubled — crac, crac! — for emphasis. Not to be confused with crack (an English borrowing used for 'a crack epidemic' or 'a crack cocaine').
Examples
"Crac ! La branche s'est cassée net."
Natural Translation
Crack! The branch snapped clean off.
