Usage Note

Coquelicot is the bright red wild poppy (Papaver rhoeas) that blooms in French fields and is strongly associated with remembrance of World War I, paralleling the British use of the poppy. The word itself imitates the call of the rooster (coq). It is also used as a vivid red colour name.
