Usage Note
Coeur (officially cœur) is central to dozens of French idioms: avoir le coeur sur la main (to be very generous, literally 'to have one's heart in one's hand'), de tout coeur (wholeheartedly), and par coeur (by heart, i.e. from memory). The ligature œ is now often simplified to oe in everyday writing.
