Usage Note
Catho is an informal, colloquial shortening of catholique. It is widely used in spoken French without any pejorative connotation — une école catho simply means a Catholic school. Used as a noun it is gender-neutral in form but agrees in context: un catho, une catho. Slightly more casual than catholique.
