Usage Note
Bénir has two past participle forms: béni (standard) and bénit, used only for objects officially consecrated by a priest, such as eau bénite (holy water) or pain bénit (blessed bread). The expression pain bénit also idiomatically means 'a stroke of luck' or 'a godsend'.
