blairer

to stand, to stomach (someone)

verb bleh-REH Rare

Usage Note

Blairer is a colloquial verb used almost exclusively in the negative: je ne peux pas le blairer ('I can't stand him'). It derives from blair, slang for 'nose', the idea being that one cannot even bear to smell the person. It is familiar register and should be avoided in formal speech. The standard equivalent is ne pas pouvoir supporter quelqu'un.
