Usage Note

Augure survives mainly in set phrases: de bon augure means 'auspicious' and de mauvais augure means 'ominous'. The verb augurer means 'to augur' or 'to bode': cela n'augure rien de bon — 'that bodes nothing good'. It has a slightly formal or literary register.
