Usage Note
Étrange means strange or unusual and is invariable for gender (same form for masculine and feminine). It is slightly more literary than bizarre, which is more common in everyday speech. The related noun étrangeté means strangeness. L'Étranger is also the title of Albert Camus's famous novel, where the root word carries the sense of 'stranger' or 'outsider'.
